My self-portrait
My self-portrait
I have 2 teenage sons who do influence my art. Starting with them as babies and going down the Peter Rabbit line. I have now progressed to Camper vans and holidays in Newquay. This has also reflected on my landscapes or range of cottages. Skateboarding is another one on the teenage agenda that I am working on. I do find that as my life changes these influences change my art.
I live in the countryside with animals to numerous to mention but there are a great deal of chicken pictures in my portfolio. Again I find them so humorous in their characters they are hard to resist. Likewise the sheep I am surrounded by with their silly attitude to life.

My style has been described as an example of naive art and not just because I have had little formal art training ! Its apparently because of its "refreshing vision, strong use of pattern, unrefined colour and simplicity " ( see wikipedia ). I am not so sure. Some of my paintings tend to be found in contemporary exhibitions, whilst others appear in more traditional galleries.... its really all in the eye of the beholder and as long as you like it, and can enjoy your walls, thats all that matters to me !!

My career background is a retail one which does help with selling and marketing my own work. I really enjoy talking to potential customers and sell a great deal at craft fairs. I like the idea of people buying original art instead of mass produced posters and try to do my best to convert them. I try to take my art to people who wouldn't think about going into an art exhibition but once converted are thrilled with what they can buy.
